Context

Impact is a platform that enables reach52 to run healthcare campaigns in underdeveloped communities, with global tech and pharma organisations partnering and sponsoring to extend the reach and focus of those efforts. Campaigns range from disease awareness and children's health to general wellbeing, with medicines provided to residents at heavily subsidised rates. Impact was built to replace Access & Connect, reach52's previous frameworks, which had grown too limited for the scale and complexity of what agents and partners needed.


Impact was built from the ground up to make all of this possible. Every feature, from offline data collection and QR code self-submission to instant form digitisation, was designed to give community workers the tools they needed to run health events effectively and give global organisations a structured, accountable way to contribute to communities that need it most.


Note: Previously, "Access" was for campaigns and events, but now it has rebranded to affordable marketing of pharmaceutical products.

Problem

Health workers lost time to an inconsistent, hard-to-navigate app, working in the field with no clear way to track which data had been synced. Admins dug through fragmented data with no clear hierarchy, making it hard to know what actually needed their attention.

What i did

As the sole designer on VIM, I owned the redesign from research through release and iteration, across every screen on both platforms.

Mobile Application

Rebuilt how health workers register residents, update immunisation records, and track who needs vaccine doses, working within the app's offline-first constraint for low-connectivity areas, and added new features like sync status and information screens.

Web Dashboard

Redesigned the admin experience to give teams real oversight across immunisations, divisions, facilities, vaccines, and beneficiaries at scale. I also built a clearer export and download report flow and a detailed vaccine side effect records (adverse event) screen.

By Aug 2025, it had registered 23,000+ beneficiaries and delivered nearly 100,000 vaccine doses, enabling data-driven vaccine access in the regions that need it most.

Reach52's community teams ran on-the-ground research across multiple regions to understand how health workers and admins were actually using the VIM platform. My work picked up from there, taking scattered field input and shaping it into a direction the team could build on.

Affordability and community health outreach are the heart of reach52. Impact was the framework built to make that possible at scale.

The foundation of Impact was to give reach52 agents the tools to run health events, understand the needs of the people around them, and make sure those people get healthcare access to care even in places with no internet, no clinic nearby, and no formal health records, and to provide heavily subsidised or free medicine for both awareness and affordability.


Global organisations work with reach52 to shape these healthcare campaigns, with on-the-ground work driven by reach52 agents who know their communities better than anyone else. But as the ambition grew, Access, the existing framework, struggled to keep up. Features were scattered, data was fragmented, and the tool was slowing down the very people it was meant to empower.

Too Many Steps

The existing framework couldn't handle both resident and anonymous data collection in one unified flow, and there was no way to digitise paper forms on the spot or later, slowing down the entire data collection process.

Unclear Sync Status

There was no way to group residents from the same family together, making it harder to track community health at a household level.

CTA Placement

Agents had no single place to see which events were happening, pending, or approved, and no way to create events directly from the mobile app, limiting their ability to initiate and manage health campaigns from the field.

Interruptive Pop-ups

A popup on multiple input fields broke the flow of a task that should've taken seconds.

No Clear Hierarchy

Screens gave no indication of what mattered most or where to go next, confusing users.

No Overview Page

No dedicated summary page existed, so admins had to piece information together by checking multiple screens one by one.

Data Priority

Data was overloaded and unstructured. Important data went unnoticed and delayed managerial decisions.

Unreliable Data Export Flow

Admins had to export or download reports through a difficult sidebar navigation flow instead of a quick overlay pop-up.

Incosistent Patterns

Every screen followed a different flow or layout, forcing admins to relearn and adjust to the interface constantly.

Limited View of Adverse Events

No dedicated space existed for adverse event records, so critical side effect details often went missing or overlooked.

Health workers worked in rural areas with unreliable connectivity, often on low-spec devices with Android 7 as the oldest supported OS, and many had never used an app professionally before.


Additionally, they had to use the app while talking to people outdoors, so every screen needed to work offline, function without instructions, and stay light on reading and navigation effort.

I worked with the product team to run stakeholder sign-off across reach52's tech, development, and business teams, and the UN, each with different priorities, through several rounds before we landed on one clear direction.

Beyond health workers and admins, the rebuild had to support a wider ecosystem of facilities and partners, and hold up as a foundation reach52 could use to attract more funding organisations.

My designs needed to tackle the problems previous versions of both mobile and dashboard surfaced, and account for constraints health workers actually worked in. My goal was to make both platforms accessible and easier to use for health workers and admins alike.

I built every screen using reach52's design system, which I created from scratch, replacing inconsistent, hard-to-navigate screens with consistent patterns, cleaner structure, simplified flows, and clearer hierarchy for both mobile and web.

I defined colour tokens, typography scale, icons, spacing, focus rings, blurs, shadows, radius, and grid once, then applied them consistently across every platform.

I documented buttons, inputs, modals, tables, navigation patterns, cards, and status indicators, each with its own properties and variants.

Every component shared one visual language across mobile and web, the same patterns, terminology, and hierarchy wherever possible.

It now powers reach52's entire product suite, including VIM, Access, and Impact, platforms which are in use by communities worldwide.

Getting reach52's teams, the UN, and partner doctors on the same page took several rounds before one direction held. Now, with an HCI background and hands-on experience managing that kind of alignment, I treat it as part of the design process, not something to rush past.
